DO-NUT make me go there! For real, though, Boxcar donuts are dangerously addictive — just a heads up for all of my foodies with an intense sweet tooth!

Boxcar donuts offers a selection of homemade artesian donuts and superb café-style drinks. Their menu changes weekly (every Tuesday), allowing for these bites of circular deliciousness to be highly anticipated and deeply deeply missed after eating.

Forest Gump says life is like a box of chocolates …. but I’d say it’s more like a box of Boxcar donuts because 1) yes, you never know what you’re going to get and 2) you almost always get frosting on top!

From the toppings and glaze right down to the batter and cream (or custard) filling, Boxcar makes it all the more worthwhile to make everyday a donut worthy day. Cut the guilt, not the carbs ;)

Boxcar not only offers bomb donuts, but also a cozy and aesthetic café vibe. Visit one of their two London, Ontario locations next time you’re near either downtown Richmond St. or Masonville area.

Keep in mind, though, that both locations open at 10am and close at 3pm (new 2022 hours) and pre-order cut-off time is 8pm daily. So be sure to make it within that small serving window, whether dining in or carrying out.

We stopped by the Masonville location during its closing hour. I regret this because though the donuts had good flavour, the dough was not as soft as I imagine they would have been if we went earlier in the day. They're meant to be eaten fresh, so go earlier rather than later for the freshest selection.

These donuts make for a fun dessert option for gatherings big and small. All menu items including daily specials are also offered for delivery via Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes.

Blueberry Cheesecake

A yummy combination of vanilla, blueberry and cream cheese frosting. Inside was filled with the same blueberry cheesecake flavour. This one also tastes much better warmed up! 8.5/10

Cinnamon Twist

Cinnamon donuts are my favourite — they’re minimalistic yet instantly flavourful (thank you cinnamon!!). This one was softer on its own without having to be warmed up. Comparable to an apple fritter but definitely with some cinnamon bun vibes in there. Excellent! 10/10

Salted Caramel

This one was good but VERY sweeet. The icing was okay but didn’t taste too much like caramel without the crunchy toppings added. Good but too sweet for me. The batter on this one was also denser than I would have liked. 7/10

Chocolate Toasted Coconut

A classic chocolate coconut combo -- always works so well together! The chocolate was rich and the coconut shavings added a textured crunch! Inside was filled with vanilla coconut custard. Dense, batter-wise and also very filling on its own. 7/10

Latte, Cappuccino, Americano (hot)

It’s so hard to come by decent coffee shops with a variety of options re flavours and authentic brewing techniques. I was surprised and impressed with Boxcar's variety of coffee flavourings (syrups) — ranging from sugar free caramel and hazelnut to lavender, strawberry, vanilla and raspberry.

I’ve tried these flavoured syrups: vanilla, caramel, SF hazelnut and SF vanilla. Haven’t yet ventured to trying strawberry or lavender yet.

Their lattes are so yummy (my fav) and would probably even taste better iced. Their cappuccino's and americano's are good as well but not amazing compared to their standard at other local coffee shops if I’m being honest.

Also note* Boxcar has only almond milk as a non-dairy substitute/ alternative.

Each donut was around $3.50. Coffee's were around the $4 mark milk and flavour-depending.

Overall, a great coffee spot with a cute storefront. For your freshest donut experience, get there early!
