Nothing says summer better than limed-up Avocado Toast on some thick rye bread.
Now, I know they say when you find a good cafe you should keep it a secret. But Tommy Café's good vibes, gorgeous ambiance and oh-so-glorious avotoast can’t stay in hiding for too long. It just doesn’t deserve to!!
Tommy Café has locations in Montreal, Quebec City and Oakville. For my GTA foodies, thats around a 30 minute drive from Yorkdale (you’re welcome).
Made humbly in Montreal, QC, Tommy Café is always the AM move -- with some spice. Tommy Café makes it totally acceptable to dress up, grab a bite and feel good about it.
Their menu has something for everyone. No, seriously, whether you want a morning coffee or mimosa, light avotoast or a sweet waffle sandwich, a croissant or fruit bowl. All healthy, affordable and fresh.
What I love about Tommy Café is the sophisticated edge and invigorating freshness it brings to the coffee-going experience. When you walk in you get everything you would at a typical cafe (service, coffee, snacks), except with an elevated experience; a trendy and elegant one with actual comfortable seating. Seating that doesn’t make you feel like your time there is limited (like commercial coffee shops with hard wooden chairs and weird, trying-to-hard-too-be-relaxing type music.)

I mean just look at that picture and tell me you wouldn’t want to have a cute date here or study here or grab coffee here with your bff! A fresh, airy feel with greenery and plenty of space to lounge or work if need be.
We stopped in by chance while in Montreal and I’m glad we did because it truly introduced my palate to ingredient combinations that I had yet to find the courage to venture towards.
Feta cheese and avocado! I’ve neverrr thought of, nor would have ever thought to do such a thing … but what can I say, Tommy made me!
I love that each avotoast menu option is culturally inspired. Italian, Greek and French avotoasts -- Nonni's, Yiayia’s, everyone’s welcome ;)
They all sound amazing, and one day I will try them all (you can hold me to my word).

Here’s what we tried this time around at Tommy Café Notre-Dame:
Salmon Avotoast (2 slices) + Iced Americano
10/10
I thoroughly enjoyed this. The salmon was fresh and the ingredients were simple, making it a clean and nutritious way to start my day. Avocado, chili, lemon, smoked salmon and olive oil were all the ingredients needed to craft this delicious, protein and healthy fat-packed breakfast. 10/10, easily.
The iced americano was good. On the bitter side without milk, but I guess thats what you're in for when you go light on the milk. 7/10.
Greek Avotoast (2 slices) + Iced Latte
9/10
The ingredients: avocado, cherry tomato, feta cheese, red onion, chili, cucumber.
I can't even blame my lactose intolerance because feta is technically goat cheese. But I'll preface by saying I don't prefer too much dairy in the morning. The Greek Avotoast was good but filling and on the saltier side. If you're looking for a heavier breakfast to tie you over longer, this is a good choice. I loved the cucumber addition and the texture it brought, but wasn't crazy about the red onions mixed in. Definitely mediterranean vibes and delicious, but not my first choice for breakfast food.
Iced latte was classic and much needed alongside the greek avotoast.
Side note*: We got full portions (2 slices) of avotoast but you can certainly ask for only one if you are looking for a lighter meal option.
So, have I convinced you enough? Get together a cute fit and grab your person to come along with you for a memorable Tommy experience.
Too bad it's so far because with my coffee addiction this place would be dangerous!
Let me know your verdict when you try this hidden gem for yourself!
Until my next dose of YUM,
xx Sab
