Chef's Hall

111 Richmond St W , Toronto

Whoever thought of this concept is brilliant. An elevated food truck-inspired patio dining concept in the heart of Toronto that screams (and smells) so darn delicious!

Now, I’m all about food minimalism and simplicity, don’t let my Instagram feed trick you. I focus on taste because at the end of the day, that’s what’s most memorable.

It's not about the name or the prestige tied to the restaurant’s location or it’s owner. Good food goes deeper than that. So, from a non-materialistic food POV, Chef's Hall cracks the code on casual, authentic deliciousness and makes for a fun patio experience.

What’s not to love about double fisting a Mexican fish taco and an Aperol spritz on a sunny afternoon in July? Ugh. I still sometimes dream about those fish tacos and those loaded, perfectly picante Mexican fries 😍 🌶

This spot has lively music and great service. The food trucks surround the perimeter of the patio and because of pandemic restrictions, our food was brought to us by waitstaff straight from the trucks.

What’s unique is that the menu changes weekly and different trucks are available only during specific intervals throughout the day. Food vendors alternate, making the menu limited to two or three cuisine types per day. The good thing about this is that you get what’s freshest, hand crafted from food trucks that specialize in what they sell. Authentic, fresh and fast (yet absolutely nothing like fast food)!

We ordered from Colibrí by Chef Elia Herrera. Here’s what we tried:

Shrimp a la Diabla Tacos 🍤🌮

10/10

Guacamole, pickled onions, taro chips, refried beans and a touch of enchilada sauce. These bad boys had a KICK! Loaded with flavour and tasted amazing. Nothing less than perfect, so I have nothing critical to say about these!

Baja Fish Tacos 🌮🌮

10/10

Picked veg, macha cream (mayo & cream), cod battered and deep fried.

These were awesome. Darker tortillas laid the base for the very soft fried cod and fresh vegetables. The red cabbage added a great texture and zesty flavour to lighten up each bite.

Mexican fries 🍟🌶

9.5/10

Fries, house made cheese sauce, cotija cheese, macha crema, pico, morita sauce.

Despite whether or not I can pronounce these ingredients, together with fries this was BOMB!! These are some spice-intoxicated fries let me tell you -- so beware!! Delish but on the spicier side.

Aperol Spritz 🍹

10/10

Ounce of this, ounce of that. Whatever the secret recipe, it was just right. This drink was thirst quenching and much needed alongside the summer sun and those subtly picante fish tacos!

A very worthy spot to try some authentic food hot off the press.

P.s. Indoor dining is also available in the winter.

Let me know your verdict when you try this hidden gem for yourself!

Until my next dose of YUM,

xx Sab
